      Luella Latendresse Pavlick

YAKIMA - Surrounded by her family, our mother, Luella Pavlick, passed away peacefully in January 2014. She was 95 years young.

Following two older brothers, Leonard and Roy, Mom was born in 1918 to Frank and Augusta Latendresse in Overly, North Dakota. In 1922 they moved to Yakima where two sisters, Lucille (Spear) and Elizabeth 'Betty' (Smith) joined the family and Mom was no longer the only girl. Yakima became home to the Latendresse family and it is here that Mom graduated from St. Joseph's Academy and went on to earn a Business Degree from Yakima Business College.

In 1947 Mom married Dad, Anthony "Tony" Pavlick, at Saint Joseph's Catholic Church and made their home in Yakima.

Over the next ten years they had five children - Jack, Jim, Barbara, Fred and Carol. Mom raised our family while working for a few local companies: Broads Books and Stationery, Yakima Paint Co., Yakima Bindery and the State Liquor Control Board. All of which were witness to Mom's dedication to her work and care to the service of others.

Mom took her much deserved retirement in 1982.

Mom was a lifetime member of Saint Joseph's Catholic Church. Through the good and not so good Mom's faith brought her comfort and reassurance. Her positive daily living and conversations were a testament to this and contagious to all around her.

In her later years of retirement Mom enjoyed her family, her 'rescued' cat family, puzzle books, game shows, wrestling and reliving her many blessings. This was all from the comfy chair she treasured from her brother, Leonard, while looking out the picture window where she could keep up on the comings and goings at the family farm.

In the last months of her life Mom lived at Landmark Care Center where she daily shared her joyful and optimistic faith, gratefulness and most of all her love and sense of humor with staff and residents. Many cups were filled with her loving smile, genuine hugs and her kind and gentle spirit.

At Landmark Mom was also a regular attendee and winner at the weekly Bingo games. After the games Mom was always one to share her bounty as she passed by her many friends heading back to her room.

No words can describe our thanks to everyone at Landmark Care Center for the quality of care and love each person provided for Mom. We will be forever grateful.

Luella was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend whose wisdom, grace and wonderful smile (and giggle too) will be missed. Although we miss not having her here with us we are grateful in knowing she is now at peace.

Mom is survived by her children Jack (Aviva), Jim, Fred, Barb Laurvick and Carol Smith all of Yakima; six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, both brothers and both sisters.

Shaw & Sons Funeral Directors of Yakima made arrangements and at Mom's request, no services will be held. Animals were always a part of Mom's life and she valued them greatly. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Mom's memory may contribute to the Yakima Valley Humane Society or to any of the Yakima Valley animal rescues.

      God Saw You

God saw you were getting tired,

And a cure was not to be.

So He put His arms around you,

      And whispered, "Come to me."

With tearful eyes we watched you,

      And saw you pass away

      Although we loved you dearly,

We could not make you stay.

      A golden heart stopped beating

      Hard working hands at rest.

God broke our hearts to prove to us,

      He only takes the best.

      Never forgotten...

      ...forever missed.
